As part of our ongoing partnership with Queensberry Promotions, BoxWise was delighted to take part in the build-up of the hotly anticipated Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois title fight last week.
A group of our fantastic participants from Islington ABC travelled to a packed-out Trafalgar Square for the fight night weigh-in, where they took to the stage to demonstrate the skills and technique they’ve picked up from their recent BoxWise sessions. Their showcase was a real crowd-pleaser, impressing the crowd with their hooks, jabs and slips.
BoxWise Chief Operating Officer Scott Lovelock was in attendance, and said of the day:
“We’re really proud of all of the young people who come to our sessions and give their all every week, so it’s brilliant to see some of them up on stage here at the weigh-in. We’re delighted to be partnered with Queensberry and to get our young people involved in the build-up for these really exciting fights. Our participants today have been a shining example of the hard work that goes on in BoxWise gyms up and down the country.”
Queensberry Founder and BoxWise Foundation Development Board Chairman Frank Warren later took to the stage at the weigh-in to highlight the BoxWise mission, stating:
“There’s a charity called BoxWise that we’re involved with that deals with knife crime, they’re doing that on the streets, they’re doing it in the gyms all around the country. Any youngster who wants to go there to go on a 10-week course, and they will be looked after, they’ll learn respect, they’ll get fed every day…it’s a brilliant thing. These are the things we should be out here doing."
The brilliant team from Islington Boxing Club were also in attendance on the big night at Wembley on Saturday the 20th of September, where they joined BoxWise coaches from Earlsfield ABC in seeing Queensberry’s Dubois confirm his IBF heavyweight title against Anthony Joshua. Whilst Joshua was the firm favourite, Dubois knocked him down in the fifth round, displaying to the world that he is a force to be reckoned with.
BoxWise participants will be back in action on Wednesday 2 October in Liverpool, as they take part in the fight week build-up for hometown favourite Nick Ball’s fight against Ronny Rios in his defence of his WBA World Featherweight title.
